The Evidence of the Resurrection: Why Easter Changes Everything

Easter is more than a holiday. It is the foundation of our faith.

We gather as believers to celebrate the one truth that changes everything: Jesus Christ is risen. The cross reminds us of His sacrifice, but the empty tomb reminds us of His victory.

The resurrection is not just a moment in history—it is the very heart of the Gospel. The Bible declares that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. If that resurrection did not happen, our faith would be empty, and we would still be in our sins.

But the good news is this: He has risen. And because He lives, everything is different.

In Luke 24, God gives us clear and compelling evidence of the resurrection. God does not ask us to believe blindly—He gives us truth we can stand on.

Let’s look at three powerful pieces of evidence.

The Empty Tomb

Early on the first day of the week, the women came to the tomb expecting to find the body of Jesus. Instead, they found the stone rolled away and the tomb empty.

This was no small detail.

The tomb was known. It was sealed. Roman guards stood watch there to prevent anyone from tampering with it. Yet when the women arrived, they found the stone already rolled away, and Jesus was not there.

God didn’t roll the stone away to let Jesus out—He rolled it away so we could see in.

The empty tomb stands as undeniable evidence that something miraculous happened. If Jesus had not risen, authorities could have easily produced His body and stopped the message of Christianity before it ever began.

But no one could find the body.

Some have tried to explain it away—suggesting Jesus didn’t really die, or that His disciples stole the body. But those explanations fall apart under scrutiny. The reality is simple and powerful:

The tomb is empty because Jesus is alive.

The Fulfilled Prophecy

As the women stood in confusion, angels appeared and asked a powerful question:

“Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen.”

Then they reminded the women of something important—Jesus had already told them this would happen.

Throughout His ministry, Jesus clearly taught that He would be crucified and rise again on the third day. These weren’t vague predictions—they were specific, bold claims.

This presents us with a decision.

If Jesus made those claims, then one of three things must be true:

  • He was lying
  • He was delusional
  • Or He is Lord

There is no middle ground.

The resurrection confirms that everything Jesus said is true. It shows that God the Father accepted His sacrifice for sin. It validates every promise He made.

God’s Word always comes to pass. And the resurrection is the ultimate proof.

The Witnesses

The resurrection was not a hidden event. It was witnessed by many.

First, the women at the tomb saw the empty grave and heard the message of the angels. They ran to tell the disciples—but at first, their words sounded like nonsense.

Then Peter ran to the tomb himself. He saw the linen cloths lying there and left in amazement.

But it didn’t stop there.

Jesus appeared to His followers. He showed Himself alive over the course of 40 days. He appeared to the apostles, and at one point, to over 500 people.

Even Thomas, who doubted, saw and touched the wounds of Christ himself. And when he did, he declared:

“My Lord and my God.”

These events didn’t happen in isolation. These were many infallible proofs that Jesus was alive.

Why the Resurrection Matters to You

This is not just theology—it’s personal.

The resurrection means:

  • Your sins can be forgiven
  • Your past can be redeemed
  • Your future is secure
  • Death is no longer the end

Because Jesus lives, death has become a doorway into eternity for those who trust Him.

The same power that raised Christ from the dead is the power that can change your life today.

If you feel stuck—trapped in sin, burdened by guilt, or searching for purpose—Jesus offers you a new beginning.

He transforms lives.

He took Peter from fear to boldness and turned Paul from a persecutor into a preacher.
And He can do the same for you.

What Will You Do With the Evidence?

The resurrection forces a response.

You cannot remain neutral. You must decide:

  • Is Jesus a liar?
  • Is He a lunatic?
  • Or is He truly Lord?

The evidence points clearly in one direction.

This Easter, don’t just celebrate the resurrection—respond to it.

Turn to Christ. Trust Him. Follow Him.

Because the same Savior who walked out of the tomb is alive today—and He is ready to change your life.
