Every story of faith isn’t a mountaintop victory. Sometimes it’s a quiet decision in the middle of a storm. Sometimes it’s choosing obedience when the cost is high. And sometimes, faith means standing firm when the world tells you to fold.
This Father’s Day, we reflect on a powerful example of faith in action through the life of Moses—a man who chose God’s path over the world’s treasures, and whose legacy continues to challenge and inspire us.
A Heritage of Faith: The Courage of Moses’ Parents
Moses’ journey of faith began long before he led Israel through the Red Sea. It began with two parents who refused to obey a king’s decree to kill their son. Hebrews 11:23 tells us:
“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents… and they were not afraid of the king’s command.”
This was a dangerous decision. The government demanded the death of Hebrew boys, but Moses’ parents feared God more than Pharaoh. Their courageous act laid the foundation for Moses’ future. They chose to obey God—even at the risk of their lives.
Their story reminds every parent: your faith matters. Your kids are watching. The choices you make in moments of crisis shape their view of courage, integrity, and trust in God. It’s never too late to start showing faith in action.
A Turning Point: Moses’ Personal Faith
Moses grew up with privilege in Pharaoh’s palace. But Hebrews 11:24-25 records a radical decision:
“By faith Moses… refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin.”
Moses had everything the world could offer—wealth, influence, security—but he gave it up. Why? Because he had a bigger vision. He saw what was eternal. He valued the reward of following God over the temporary pleasures of Egypt.
This is real faith. Faith that chooses obedience over comfort. Purpose over pleasure. God’s people over cultural popularity. Moses didn’t just believe—he acted.
Faith That Sees the Bigger Picture
Hebrews 11:26 tells us:
“He esteemed the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.”
Moses hadn’t seen Christ yet—but he believed in the promise of the coming Messiah. He trusted that God’s reward was better than anything this world could offer. That’s the heart of biblical faith: trusting what we can’t yet see and acting like it’s already true.
His decision foreshadowed the cross of Christ—where Jesus bore shame and suffering for our salvation. Jesus endured the cross “for the joy set before Him” (Hebrews 12:2)—your redemption and mine. Both Moses and Jesus show us what faith looks like when it costs something.
Choosing Faith When It’s Hard
Many of us want faith like Moses, but we hesitate when the path gets difficult. Hebrews 11 reminds us that not every faithful person had a “happy ending” here on earth. Some were persecuted. Some were imprisoned. Some even lost their lives.
“They were stoned… sawn in two… slain with the sword… of whom the world was not worthy.” (Hebrews 11:37-38)
The truth is, faith often requires sacrifice. It asks us to choose God’s way even when it’s not easy, popular, or safe. That’s the kind of courage we need today—especially as fathers, mothers, and leaders in our homes and communities.
Dads, Your Faith Makes a Difference
This message is especially for fathers: your example matters. The world needs men who will stand for what’s right, who will lead with integrity, and who will choose faith over fear. Not every decision will be dramatic—but every day is an opportunity to choose Christ.
- Will you prioritize God’s truth over worldly trends?
- Will you lead your home with conviction and humility?
- Will your kids see in you a faith that acts, not just talks?
Like Moses’ parents, your faith can shape the future. Like Moses, your courage can change the course of history—one choice at a time.
Final Thoughts: Faith That Endures
Faith in action isn’t just about the big moments. It’s a series of daily decisions to trust, obey, and follow Jesus—no matter the cost. Whether you’re facing hardship, making hard choices, or simply trying to lead your family well—God honors faithful hearts.
